    Alive After 5

    This is the last month of 2017 to get your fill of Alive After 5 – Billings’ outdoor concert series. Every Thursday throughout August you can enjoy live music, cocktails and food. Here’s this month’s lineup:

    • August 3: John Roberts y Pan Blanco at Don Luis Mexican Restaurant
    • August 10: DJ Breece & DJ Benefit at Wild Ginger Japanese Steakhouse
    • August 17: Bitter Road at Pug Mahon’s
    • August 24: Steve Fulton Music Family Fun Night, Downtown Billings
    • August 31: Midlife Chryslers at Northern Hotel

    All shows are from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

     

    August 3 through 5

    Magic City Blues Festival

    The Magic City Blues Festival kicks off on Thursday, August 3, with a free, all-ages show starring Victor Wainwright and the Wild Roots. Friday’s big act is Brian Setzer and on Saturday night, on the Budweiser Stage is one of our faves, ZZ Ward.

    August 4

    ArtWalk

    Art fans, rejoice! It’s the 23rd season for the Billings ArtWalk, when studios, museums and galleries throw open their doors and invite you to come on in. Enjoy refreshments, music, gallery talks and more. Get the details online at artwalkbillings.com.

     

    Jam at the YAM

    Part of the ArtWalk festivities includes the Jam at the Yam where you can listen to live music while visiting the exhibitions. There will be a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres as well.     August 11 to August 19

    MontanaFair

    It’s 2017 Montana Fair time, so grab the family and head out to MetraPark and have a blast! Headliners this year include Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo and Melissa Etheridge; Paramore with Special Guest Julien Baker; Bill Engvall with Special Guest Gary Brightwell. You’ll find the usual (and popular) 4-H events and the kids will love the All-Star Stunt Dogs performance on August 12 to the 18th.     August 11 and August 25

    Billings Kiwanis Movies Under the Stars

    It’s “ZOOTOPIA” under the stars at Will James Middle School on August 11. Please purchase concessions because 100 percent of the profits benefit Landon’s Legacy Miracle League Park. On the 25th, catch “Beauty and the Beast” at Zoo Montana and proceeds from this screening benefit the zoo. Admission to both movies is absolutely free and shows begin at dusk.

    Firefly Outdoor Movies in the Park

    More movies! Grab the fam and get to Pioneer Park for a free screening of “The Secret Life of Pets” on the 11th and then Castle Rock Park for “Rogue One” on the 25th. Both movies start at dusk and admission is free. You may want to make an evening of it by getting there early to have dinner and let the kids loose on the playground. Don’t forget a blanket or lawn chair to sit on, but leave the pooch at home, please.

     

    August 12

    Quality of Life Run

    A benefit run for YWCA Billings, the Quality of Life Run offers two downhill courses, a 2-mile and a 5-mile. Our Billings Association of Realtors® is organizing the run, so I hope to see you there! Get signup information online, here and view a map of the route here.

    Belly Dance Festival

    The 10th annual Yellowstone Valley Belly Dance Festival is shimmying its way to Alberta Bair Theater tonight. Headliners Moria and Silvia will mesmerize you with their moves. Buy tickets online here.

     

    August 24 to August 26

    Summer Christmas

    We’re at the tail-end of summer and in a month or two folks will turn their attention to the fall and winter holidays. You can get a huge head start by heading to the Shrine Auditorium to shop from among more than 70 vendors. Admission is free and the event runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

     

    August 26

    Beat the Heat 5K

    It’s the 3rd annual Beat the Heat run, sponsored by the Billings Police Department and it looks like it’s going to beat last year’s record. The run starts at Zoo Montana and you’ll be racing against the cops. Sign up online, here.

     

    Elk River Reunion: Legends of Classic Rock

    No cover bands at this one – you can enjoy your favorite classic rock hits from the artists who created them. Blue Oyster Cult, Jefferson Starship and others will be on hand to provide the music and there will be food and ice-cold beer too. It all happens at the Cove Creek Outdoor Pavilion in Billings.     Billings Clinic Classic

    We LOVE the Mavericks and they’re the headlining the entertainment at the Billings Clinic Classic at Alberta Bair. The evening begins, however, in a “sea of beautiful tents and twinkling lights in the heart of downtown Billings,” after which the party moves to Alberta Bair for music and dancing. There will also be food, of course. After all, this is a benefit for the Friends of Nursing Endowment at Billings Clinic. Learn more online at albertabairtheater.org.

    Nickelback in Concert
